A lounge and kitchen that work together

This apartment is very private. You come in from the driveway around the side of the house to a covered veranda fronting the apartment. The entrance has a large, covered area with a washing machine and space for hanging laundry and from here there are steps leading up to the apartment veranda.

Inside, the lounge runs up one side of the apartment. The lounge is open to the kitchen rather than shut off from it, so the two work together as one main living space.

The kitchen is L-shaped. It runs alongside the bedroom and then wraps round towards the front of the apartment, with the bathroom opening off it.

The bedroom is a separate room with a very secure and lockable door on it, so the sleeping space genuinely shuts off from the rest of the apartment.

How it fits together

The front door is in the side of the lounge, reached across a covered veranda. Once inside, the lounge runs up the left of the plan with the store room above it, and it opens straight through into the kitchen with no wall between them.

The kitchen is the shape that ties the apartment together: it sits beneath the bedroom, then turns and runs down to the front of the building. The bathroom opens off it at that far end, and the bedroom door is in the wall above.
