Home/Apartments/Back Apartment
One bedroom, an ensuite bathroom, a separate kitchen and a lounge looking over the garden.
The Back Apartment is arranged as a square in four parts. You come into an entrance area with the bathroom beside it, the sleeping area is through a curtain screen to one side, and a door ahead leads to the kitchen, with a separate lounge beyond that looking out over the garden and pool.
The entrance space is what most tenants make their own. It takes a desk and chair comfortably, and the people who have lived here have generally used it as a home office — useful if you are working from home some of the week. It also does the ordinary job of a hall, somewhere to drop bags and keys on the way in.
Because the bathroom opens off the same room as the sleeping area, it works as an ensuite. You do not cross the apartment to reach it.
The curtain screen means the bed is not on show. Anyone arriving at the door sees the sitting area, not your bedroom — a small thing that makes a real difference when you are living somewhere rather than staying a few nights.
The separate lounge is the feature the other two apartments do not have. It is fully enclosed, with louvre windows and insect screens, so the louvres open right up for the breeze while the screens keep the insects out. It works as an evening room in the wet season as well as the dry.
The apartment reads as a square divided in four. The entrance and bathroom occupy one quarter, with the sleeping area alongside, separated by a curtain rather than a wall. The kitchen sits behind the entrance, and the lounge behind the sleeping area, reached through the kitchen.
Walking in, the bathroom is immediately on one side and the curtain on the other. Straight ahead a door opens into the kitchen, and a further door on the far side of the kitchen leads into the lounge.
